1.0     About the Awards

1.1  The Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards

 The Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards are an initiative of Griffith University and Griffith Sciences.

There are three Awards:

»        Outstanding Alumnus Award,

»        International Alumnus Award,

»        Young Alumnus Award.

 1.2   Alumni Eligibility

To be considered an alumnus of the Griffith Sciences Group, nominees must have completed 40 credit points of study within the elements (or predecessor elements) within the Group. This includes, but is not limited to, the Schools of Environment, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology and Natural Science.  Other eligibility criteria applicable to a specific Award is set out below.

1.3  Organising Group

The Awards are organised by:

»     Executive Officer, Griffith Sciences,

»       Griffith Sciences Marketing Manager, Office of Marketing and Communications

»     Alumni Engagement and Events Coordinator, Griffith Sciences.

 

  • Judges

»     The Pro Vice Chancellor (Sciences), Griffith University (or nominee) (Chair of the panel),

»     A representative of the Griffith University Development and Alumni Office,

»     Alumni Engagement and Events Coordinator, Griffith Sciences.

»     Dean (Academic) Griffith Sciences (or nominee).

2.0       Nominations

2.1         Method of Nomination

To nominate for the Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards the nominator must submit a Nomination Form (available from the Alumni Awards website at https://www.griffith.edu.au/griffith-sciences/alumni/alumni-awards) to the Alumni Engagement and Events Coordinator, Griffith Sciences by the Closing Date.  Nominations will only be accepted if the prescribed Nomination Form is used and nominations are received by 5pm on the Closing Date.   Nominations must be submitted online to the email address in 2.5 below.

Closing Date:  Friday 8 September 2017

2.2         Material Submitted

Nomination forms, videos and accompanying material will only be disclosed to the organizing group and the Judges, until the announcement of the awards.  By submitting a Video, the nominator agrees that he or she permits (and/or has obtained the necessary permissions from the owner of the video) for Griffith University to use the video in promoting Griffith events and activities in future.

2.3         Previous Nominees/Winners

Nominations remain current for a period of two (2) years and nominations from the previous year will be reconsidered in the current year.

Previous winners may be nominated again but they are not eligible for nomination in the category in which they were successful and any nomination must be made under a different category for a different Award.

2.4         Who may nominate?

Alumni, Griffith University staff and members of the community can nominate potential candidates to receive these Awards.  Nominees need not be working in the discipline from which they graduated.

2.6         Withdrawal from the Alumni Awards

A nominee may withdraw from the Alumni Awards at any time, but notice of withdrawal must be given in writing and either sent by email to Damian Harris at the address above or, if by post, to:

2.7         Media Exposure and Promotions

Please note that it is a condition of nomination (and of accepting an Alumni Award) that the successful nominees  will make themselves available for a reasonable number of Griffith University media and public relations activities at no charge to the University.  The type of activities Griffith may ask you to be involved in could include giving a guest lecture or conducting a masterclass.

Your personal information may be used in Griffith University promotional material advertising the Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards or for other promotional purposes.

Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed to winners who reside outside of Brisbane and Gold Coast.

2.8         Changes to Nominations

Changes to nominations will not be accepted following the closing date for nominations on the Nomination Form and as shown on the Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards website.

2.9         Verification

Griffith reserves the right to verify the identity of nominees at any time and may disqualify any person whose nomination is not in accordance with these terms and conditions.  Griffith is free to accept entries which contain errors and omission at its discretion.

 

3.0       Award Categories

 Nominators must ensure that nominees meet all eligibility criteria for the Award in which they are being nominated.

3.1  Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award

For the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award nominees must have at least five (5) years’ work experience since completion of eligible degree and demonstrate:

»     Sustained exceptional success in area of chosen industry / profession;

»     Sustained outstanding contribution to industry / profession; and

»     Substantial contribution to the community at the local, state, national or international levels. This may be as part of employment in their chosen profession, working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.

3.2  Young Alumnus of the Year Award

For the Young Alumnus of the Year Award nominees must be under thirty-five (35) years old, with at least three (3) years’ work experience since completion of eligible degree and demonstrate:.

»        Exceptional success in area of chosen industry / profession;

»     Significant contribution to industry / profession; and

»     Contribution to the community at the local, state, national or international levels. This may be as part of employment in their chosen profession, working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.

3.3  International Alumnus of the Year Award

For the International Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award nominees must have completed at least 40 credit points as an international student and have at least three (3) years’ work experience since completion of first eligible degree and demonstrate:

»     Exceptional success in area of chosen industry / profession;

»     Significant contribution to industry / profession; and

»     Contribution to the community at the local, state, national or international levels. This may be as part of employment in their chosen profession working as a volunteer in the charitable sector or in other ways.

4.     Prizes and Decisions

4.1  Notification of Alumni Awards

The winners of the Alumni Awards will be announced, and receive their awards, at the Remarkable 2017 Griffith Sciences Awards event to be held on Tuesday 3 October 2017.  Details of the venue and the award ceremony will be put on the Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards website.

4.2  Finality of decision

The decision of the Judges is final. No communication will be entered into with any person in relation to any decision of the Judges.

 

4.3  Commendations

At its discretion, the judging panel may make additional commendations within the scope of the Alumni Awards in the case of more than one outstanding candidate in any category.

5.     General

5.1  Change of Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions may be amended at any time. The amended Terms and Conditions will be effective immediately upon being posted on the Alumni Award website.

5.2  Termination

The Organising Group may at any time and for any reason decide not to proceed with or discontinue the 2017 Griffith Sciences Alumni Awards and associated events by posting a notice to that effect on the Alumni Awards website, located at https://www.griffith.edu.au/griffith-sciences/alumni/alumni-awards

5.3  Issues outside Terms and Conditions

The Organising Group may determine any issue relating to the Alumni Awards not specifically covered by these Terms and Conditions.  All decisions will be final and no communication will be entered into.

5.4  Liability

Griffith will not be liable for any loss, expense, damage or injury sustained by a nominator or nominee in connection with these Awards except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case, that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).

5.5  Personal Information

Any personal information you provide to Griffith in the course of entering the competition will be dealt with by Griffith in accordance with these terms and conditions and the University’s Privacy Plan.
